Local walk 1 and 2

Lantys Tarn

Take the road directly opposite the Glenridding Hotel, continue up the side road - the beck on your right - past the whitewashed farmhouse up hill to the top house - Turn LEFT and continue up KELDAS following well defined path, keep to this path which leads over into Grisedale valley. If time and energy permits walk over brow of hill (keep to main path) when wooden five barred gate is reached turn LEFT - a few yards down the track leads to a tarred road - turn LEFT again - this road leads down to the main road at Grisedale Bridge - again turn LEFT - Glenridding hotel is half a mile along the road

REMARKS Steep short pull up Keldas and then easy walking. Lovely views of the lake and village all the way to the top. Lanty Tarn photogenic small tarn and very peaceful.

Footwear - Boots if you have them or flat sensible shoes

Grisedale (As long as you want)

Turn LEFT on leaving Glenridding Hotel - when rowing boat hire - station is reached cross road to marked footpath which keeps you off busy main road for a few hundred yards. On rejoining main road turn RIGHT when you come to Grisedale Bridge - walk up Grisedale valley as far as wanted

 

REMARKS Good tarred road up to farm valled Elm How - then grass path leads on eventually to GRISEDALE TARN ( and over into Grasmere). Very short pull up hill after leaving main road - then easy walking all the way. Lovely peacefull valley with no traffic, except perhaps the occasional farm tractor.

Up by the tarn on the laft before reaching it is the Wordsworth parting stone, where William said goodbye to his brother, as his brother was parting to war.
