Lake Walk (4 Hours)

 

Take Lake Steamer to Howtown. On leaving pier take marked footpath on your RIGHT and just follow with well dfined route until you arrive at Side Farm Patterdale - Turn RIGHT down thourhg farm yard, cross fields and join main road - Turn RIGHT -Glenridding about 3/4 mile along main road.

REMARKS A scenic walk about 6 to 8 miles, slightly up and down but no hard climbs, although boots or strong shoes should be worn. Whilst passing you may like to visit our church, ST Patricks. Here you can see a beautiful embroidered wall-hanging, worked by Miss Ann Macbeth, a lady who lived for many years in Patterdale. The views on the tapestry, behind the figure of Christ, is the scene she looked onto from her studio window

Circular walk around Brotherswater (1 and half hours)

Leave car at car-park at Cow Bridge Hartsop. Take path over cattle grid and walk alongside the small Lake of Brotherswater - Hartsop Hall farm is 1/2 mile further on, a National Trust Farm and one of the oldest in the Dale - the path leads round behing the farm house and goes on across the fields between the camp site of Sykeside. On reaching the main road Turn LEFT a few yards on a signed footpath takes you along side the Lake - rejoin the main road and continue until your starting point is reached once more.

 

REMARKS All dogs MUST be kept on a lead under control as the fields are grazing for sheep and cattle. Close all gates behind you that are already closed and keep to the path as grass may be hay meadow. Brotherswater so named because legend has it that two pairs of brothers drowned here many years ago. Very easy flat walking
