The Lake District is England's only true mountain region and contains some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery in the land. The valleys which radiate from the central massif of mountains contain long, deep, glacially formed lakes which provide a marvellous contrast to the spectacular peaks and give the area its name. The scenery in the Lake District never fails to leave the visitor with a sense of awe, and an understanding of why this landscape inspired a generation of poets. The physical beauty, abundance of fauna, striking flora and native wildlife makes the county of Cumbria, and the Lake District National Park, the most attractive destination in the United Kingdom today. There is so much to see and do within this part of the Lake District, and we have tried to provide an idea of the range of activities and places to visit to help you plan your stay with us.

Aira Force Walk (1 to 2 Hours) National Trust land with large car park just off main road 3 miles north of Glenridding. Easy gradients - very well defined and maintained paths and in places steep with hand rails. Best visited after rain as then the waterfall is at its best and in spate. The fall has a drop of 80 feet into a narrow gorge. Further up from the main fall the paths run alongside the beck in places and a series of smaller falls are all very picturesque. So many paths to follow that one can be left to wander at will through these lovely woods.
